Most of Lacharme's roses fail to reach the superlative in any single respect. They are a little out of the main stream of old roses, perhaps. But each of these roses is a solid offering and brings something unique and desirable to the world of roses. Boule de Niege, 'snowball' produces white flowers the size and shape of a golf ball on a compact plant. There is nothing quite like it. I have seen it at the foot of Rote Max Graf whose red flowers it sets off magnificently. I am of the impression that there may be rosarians in cool summer, mild winter climates who would swear Souv. de Dr. Jamain is still the best red rose to be found in rosedom.
