Most of these cultivars are rather tender roses; but where they are not killed by frost they can be fine additions to the garden. Irene Watts is a particularly good small shrub when it comes to making lots of flowers. And Catherine Mermet produces large, sumptous flowers with an inimitable charm. Louis XIV produces some of the darkest blossoms to be found in rosedom.
The house of Guilot has recently introduced a small collection of (dare we say?) English Style roses such as Florence Delattre and Martine Guillot. They are remontant, fragrant, shrubby, and of old rose form. They may be worth checking out.
