Roses Bred by Dickson

The house of Dickson has been breeding roses in Ireland since the late ninteenth century. One will find in this list quite a mixed bag of roses. There is, for instance, Marchioness of Londonderry, a hybrid perpetual bred in the ninteenth century that will produce huge blossoms in a shell pink or very faded dusky orange. There is the primrose colored hybrid tea of deserved fame, Elina. It is a luminous and cheery addition to any garden that contains a fair patch of green. Come to think of it, it would even look good in a big pot against a pink stucco wall or a bougainvilla. Anisley Dickson has for years been loved by thousands of gardeners for producing carpets of coral flowers on a troublefree plant. Inexplicably, the rose was renamed Dicky for registration with the ARS. Of the others, we know only the names and, in some cases, that at least one very pretty photograph of the cultivar exists in some book, probably Botanica's roses or Macoboy's Ultimate Rose Book.
