Comments This bright rose was popular for years as a cut flower, its color halfway between vermilion and scarlet, and its stems long. New foliage is bronze, complementing the flower color nicely. Judging from its distribution it does well primarily in Mediterranean climates. There exist a few red roses such as Papa Meilland whose petals sometimes appear to be sort of velvet-coated. Baccara is one. Baccara requires high culture is grown primarily as a cut flower: most of the Google citations are about improving cultivation methods for growing this cultivar in large agricultural quantities. There is also a climbing rose by the same name.
