Comments It produces large white flowers that are frequently touched with soft peachy and ivory colors. They are held against dark green foliage. Penelope can tolerate a bit of light shade. In fact, even when grown in NJ zone 6 it needed light shade to keep from drying out and collapsing, which it was prone to do in dry conditions. So it needs steadily moist soil and it doesn't like to be pruned. It is more resistant to blackspot than any hybrid tea, but might get mildew.

BTW: A warm feminine charm attaches to the plant in full bloom making it one of the more irresistable of the roses, old or modern. No single attribute can account for its effect, but overall it is a strong one. So overwhelming is this plant that a number of very good siblings that otherwise would be garden champions have fallen into obscurity by not being quite so good as this rose.
