Comments Gardeners in the USA read British gardening books and then go out and buy pink, white, and crimson flowers to demonstrate their good taste. British gardeners buy orange and vermilion ones to stick in their small gardens. So it is that there are a lot of vibrant roses that never make it across the Atlantic. I was interested to observe, at Roseraie de l?Hay, that visiting Brits who sounded like Diana Rigg (Emma Peal) or John Thaw (Inspector Morse) liked pinks and whites while those who sounded like the cast of Red Dwarf liked orange flowers; your color choice dictates your caste. It?s interesting that in a ?class free? society of the Americas hot color in roses should be so nearly absent.
