Comments In this instance, Meilland may have captured the romance of the English rose even better than David Austin has. The blooms are large, deeply cupped, and powerfully fragrant. But as is true of Austin's big-flowered pinks, Auguste Renoir is not generous with her flowers. To make matters worse, the thin petals ball in damp weather. And can get dry edges when the weather is dry. Consequently, it is rather difficult to get a perfect blossom. But for the serious gardeners who enjoy both a bit of a challenge and the joys that come from achieving difficult successes, this can be an exceptionally rewarding rose. The rose is on a west coast list of "Roses truly resistant to blackspot." As with other Meilland roses, it is available primarily through garden centers; and it has not been distributed stateside for some years.
