Comments This is a "found rose." Octagenarian Martha Gonzales' small south Texas yard was edged with this ever-blooming rose decades ago and when Texas Rose Rustlers discovered it. It was an instant hit. The plant produces flowers that are not very big, but they are a clear red, crimson or scarlet. And the plant produces them generously and with good continuity. The plant is compact and very bushy, almost like a polyantha, but the flowers and foliage are very reminiscent of the best china roses. An established Martha Gonzales is among the most tolerant of drought, impoverished heavy soil and blistering sunlight that is to be found among cultivated roses.
