Comments Louis Philippe was such a popular rose in its day that dozens of impostors were sold under that name. Buds begin to open a dark and dusky rose pink. They darken to crimson or dark purple as they open and age. Frequently the mottling that results adds a rich air of sophistication to the blossoms, but occasionally it might look confusing or ridiculous. Bright sunlight and warm weather are most helpful in bringing the color transformation to completeness; but if weather is too dry the thin petals crisp and look horrible. The plant is vigorous and resistant to disease, and the flowers are round, cupped, and fragrant.
