Comments Helen Hayes makes apricot colored roses that are yellow at the base of the petals. The flowers are borne facing outward, which makes them much more accessable. Bred by Brownell, it is relatively cold hardy. It is also more blackspot resistant than most HT's of that time. The apricot buds are lanky, and they open into a flower of informal and muddled charm in a delicious blend of caramel, cream, and pale apricot. This is definitely not a rose for the exhibition bench, but its warm color and exuberant presence make it an attractive and fun plant for the garden.
