Comments Gene Boerner was the chief horticulturalist and plant breeder for Jackson and Perkins at its height of power in the US. He was nicknamed "Dr Floribunda" for his work in breeding and introducing really good floribunda roses to the US market. It is fitting that this rose should be named for him, since it is vigorous, disease resistant, and capable of bearing fabulously shaped high centered flowers with slightly refelexed petals. The whole effect is very retro.

BTW: Antique Rose Emporium specializes in roses that flourish in the Gulf States, in places where heat and humidity quickly kill roses susceptible to fungal disease - especially blackspot. Only a handful of roses bred since WWII appear in their catalogue, but Gene Boerner does, suggesting this is an exceptionally tough floribunda.
