Comments This is among the more unusual of roses, eliciting questions and comments from almost everyone who spots it in the garden. Fred Loads produces large clusters of coral orange flowers at the ends of long canes. The flat, semi-double flowers have a bit of a faded eye that surrounds tan stamens that enhance the effect. It's a remarkable color because it can pull together soft yellows, pinks, and purples. It stands up well to strongly colored flowers; rudbeckias, sunflowers, asian lilies, kniphofias, cannas, and even marigolds. It does tend to grow long unbranched canes that remain vertical, so it does best trained as a pillar or trained on a fence. It's not a rampant grower; but it is persistent, and will build up to full size in four or five years. It is not troubled much by disease.
