Comments Rugosas have a reputation for being chunky and unrefined, and while this rose does make a large shrub, its overall effect is of refinement. The rosy flowers with their yellow centers work very nicely with the round, red hips that are borne contemporaneously. Likewise, the lush, dark, crinkled foliage sets both off wonderfully. All this on a tough, disease-free plant. This explains why it has been popular for nearly 100 years.
