Comments Don Juan looks beautiful trained on a low stone wall or fence where its small number of seven foot canes can be trained mostly sideways to encourage each one to produce more than one of those four inch wide, dark red, deliciously fragrant blossoms. If one tries to grow Don Juan where the humidity is relatively high and the temperature ever goes above 90F, one must be ready to spray for blackspot, for the rose gets the infection quickly and drops its leaves in a few short days. Similarly, it's not a good rose for cold winter situations; failing regularly in mountainous zone 7 climates. In mediterranean climates, though, Don Juan can be the perfect red rose.
