Comments Its cupped flowers are quartered and packed with petals. Opening a purplish crimson or dark purple they fade to a soft mauve. A number of gardeners report that it is blessed with delicious fragrance. It's vigorous to be able to grow well in Louisiana despite being touched by blackspot.

BTW: This rose, named by its famous Austrian breeder Rudolf Geschwind "Erinnerung an Brod" was registered as "Souvenir an Brod" at the ARS because old rose lovers find French-sounding names more sonorous. The sense of "Erinnerung" in German or "Souvenir" in French is "a fond memory of" or "a memento of." Though it blooms but once a year, one might reasonably expect this rose to produce some fond memories of place.
