Comments The flower opens from a high-centered bud into a delicate, old rose style flower, in a rare coral color that is strongly tinged with vermilion. It has been used extensively in breeding. Of the many thousands of roses at Rosaraie de l'Hay when I was there this one looked just about the least healthy. It was scrawny, having but a single blossom, and the insignificant amount of foliage it did have suffered from blackspot and/or rust. It looked inconsolably sad. It is said by those who garden in California, however, to be disease-resistant, tolerant of shade, heat, poor clay soil. It leaps tall buildings, too: there is a climbing sport.
