Ground Cover, Breeding Stock
Small, about 1
Height & Width:
1 ft x 15 ft
This is, perhaps, not a rose one would put in a garden. As is R. multiflora, it is listed in the invasive species database. But a number of extraordinary climbers have this rose as a parent or grandparent, particularly those by Barbier and Van Fleet. In rich, moist soil it grows with amazing vigor, making fifteen foot long, whiplike canes in a short season. It is also amazingly cold hardy and resistant to disease.
BTW: There is a variegated version of this rose. It should make for interesting breeding stock. See also, Curiosity.
