Comments Robusta vigorously generates long canes. At some point these harden a bit and arch outward. And then it covers them with single, red flowers. The show continues for a long time. It was once rated 9.5 amont ARS members, which made it, by far, the highest rated rose ever.

BTW:

I've observed this rose in two spots: Roseraie de l'Hay and my own yard in NJ. In the famous rose park it was about six feet high and ten feet wide, and was consituted of perhaps a dozen very long canes. The canes ran vertically for three or four feet, then arched out and slightly down at the tips. Along each were several large red floppy roses. I found the effect bizarre. In my own yard it succumbed to fungal disease the first year and died. Sometimes one wonders what a 9.5 rose gets you. I am told that the rose gets better every year: Perhaps all the samples I've observed have been very, very young.
