Roses Bred by Zary

Timeless grows in a local park and I am impressed with its ability to draw together roses from the cool pinks and whites with roses from the warmer yellows and oranges. This is a rare ability and Timeless is one of a tiny handful of roses up to the task. The particular red of Veterans' Honor and the same of the rose strike me as being a valuable addition to the list of red hybrid tea roses, though I am not convinced that the rose is anything like as vigorous as Olympiad or Ingrid Bergman. Fourth of July leaves me cold.

Technically, Amber Waves, Honey Perfume, and Our Lady of Guadalupe are fragrant floribundas. But the flower styles remind me of English Roses as do their attempt at fragrance. Finally, they strike me as being relatively well branched - at least in comparison to hybrid tea roses. So stylistically they are generally consistent with David Austin's ideal even if they approach it from a different direction. I have seen one or two of these growing in gardens and have wanted to like them a little more than I found myself actually doing.

I have seen Hot Tamale on several occasions and find it tres jolie. And I grow Gemini in a bed next to Double Delight. By one measure they are the same rose. They both have white petals kissed with a bit of lemon yellow that turn brilliant crimson in bright sunlight. Double Delight has the advantage of strong fragrance. But Gemini is a much much more vigorous plant. As a result it is more generous with its flowers. My general rule is that I do not plant roses that have no fragrance. I made an exception for Gemini, and I am glad I did. It is of very easy culture and quite good looking.
