Roses with Easy Care Reputations

Marijke Koopman is recommended by a large number of rosarians as one of the easiest hybrid tea roses to care for. And I intend to try it again. All of mine failed quickly and convincingly in poor soil in the middle of deer highway; but they hardly had a chance there. Sunset Celebration hangs on in my garden. After four or five years of building up to it, a year or two ago it bloomed for the first time. And it was a very pretty blossom. I have a photo to prove it. I'm sure that any good gardener could extract much more from it than I have done.

I have seen Day Breaker growing in two municipal gardens. This is one of a very tiny number of floribunda or hybrid tea roses that has really impressed me. The form is perfect hybrid tea. The color shading is an exquisite and tasteful blend of pastel yellow and pink. The plant is nicely branched and it looks healthy and vigorous. Truthfully, this may be one of the most impressive floribunda introductions in years. It takes a good offshore rose to win an AARS award, which it has done. This suggests that it really is of modest or easy care. I have seen it planted near Caribbean whose colors are stronger, but there is a kind of echoing thing that goes on in this arrangement that works for me. Coincidentally, these are the only two rose cultivars I've seen both in Bay area gardens and in NJ area gardens that have wowed me both places.
