Given the considerable number of prestigious awards and the many merits of this rose it is somewhat surprising that Southampton has not been distributed in the US. It certainly is unique, colorful, healthy, and fragrant. (The photo was taken in Vintage Gardens' Nursery but my supplier database does not indicate it was available stateside as of two years ago.)
This rose does have an Award of Garden Merit from the RHS, so we can infer that it grows well in England where it is popular. And it is said to do well in warmer climates as well. It seems that this rose would be a great addition to the line-up in the US and I look forward to seeing it growing in many happy gardens here. |
