Photo of Rose Royal Sunset Climbing It was not until its fourth season that Royal Sunset produced its first bloom, pictured left. True, it is growing in poor soil, but it's hard to think that a climber is successful if it reaches three feet in height four years. New Dawn, in the same conditions managed canes of 14 ft in two years.

So much for its down side. The rose produces lovely blossoms four inches across and without the benefit of fungicide shows no sign of disease. Evidently this is a rose that thrives in ideal conditions, ARS members rate it a stellar 8.9. And for a hardy, disease-free yellow climber that sounds about right.
