Monet used this rose at Giverny to "launch color into the sky." This Paul's Scarlet Climber does well. The red is, surprisingly, a very garden-friendly color cavorting with every other saturated color, and even showing of some pastels to advantage.
It blooms but once a year producing a dramatic show for several weeks. It's short enough that it can work on a tall pillar, and tall enough to work on an arch. The rose is reported to get some mildew, which suggests against placing it against a wall or fence. ARS members rate it 7.1 |
