The advantage single roses have over many hybrid teas is that - as David Austin observed - hybrid teas may be pretty in bud, but they can be ugly as fully opened flowers. Singles remain pretty once fully open. Despite this strength, I am generally disinclined to go for single HT's. There is a quality to Mrs Oakley Fisher that makes me feel like admitting an exception. I like this rose for its exact color and the silky texture of its petals. ARS members rate it 8.4, suggesting it is healthy and much loved. It also has an award for garden merit from the RHS. |
