The photographers art has managed to conceal the diminutive size of a host of rose blossoms including this one. The largest among these might have been two inches across. But the plant had plenty. And they did smell good. Mme Pierre Oger is frequently considered the best of the bourbon class. The rose is remontant, the plant extremely well branched and foliaged, the flowers extremely pretty and fragrant. The ARS members rate it 8.0. It failed with alacrity in my own garden. And as a bourbon, I would expect it to suffer from black spot. It is a sport of Reine Victoria, the other good remontant bourbon. |
