Low Roses | Bushes | Shrubs | Climbers
|Mermaid is a big rose. The single flower might be almost three inches across. A fifty year old plant could cover a barn. Perhaps we are just being awed by its vigor and exemplary health, but I think there is a remarkable concinnity to its beauty. The primrose flowers set off the stamens; the foliage sets off the flowers, the flowers are in scale with the plant. And so on.
There is some disagreement over where it will grow. Some say it is hardy to zone 7. Others say it will come back each year from its own roots in zone 6. Botanica claims zone 4, but this seems unlikely.
It boasts an award of garden merit from the RHS, and ARS members give it a stellar 8.6.
