Low Roses | Bushes | Shrubs | Climbers
|Hot Cocoa is the novelty rose for the year. It is intersting, but it is not the first rose in this color. Edmund LeGrice did it forty years ago with Oriental Charm. By some measures that is a better rose.
This is one of those roses that looks really interesting in a photo, but can to leave you cold when you view it in the garden. The flowers are not quite two inches across, they are not produced in great clusters, and their value (distance between black and white in color space) is about the same as that of the foliage, so they can be hard to see. Remember that this can be a difficult color to work with in the garden unless you are planting a lot of other oranges and yellows.
The plant looks healthy enough, is nicely branched, and carries ample foliage.
