Rose gardeners who covet the large, well-formed apricot blossoms of this rose but find the rose to be too much work to keep in top form refer to it as "hell and trouble." ARS members rate it 5.1. There is no mention of fungal disease in the venerable source "Botanica," only of weak stems which are not able to carry the weight of the flowers. Yet in light of its rating and nickname, I'd be inclined only to grow this rose in a Mediterranean climate and with a regular spraying program. Under these conditions it could wow. The rose was an AARS winner in 1952, and is a reminder of how roses have and have not improved since then. |
