David Austin calls this the original English Rose, since it embodies all the qualities for which he strives in his roses: The flowers are pretty in bud, and equally pretty and full of petals when fully open. They are very fragrant. The plants are well branched and densely foliaged. They are immune to disease, hardy, grow well on their own roots.

ARS members hold this rose in high regard; they rate it 8.3.
