Magenta colored flowers are almost impossible to reproduce accurately: this one should actually be a little darker and just a little redder in tone. Also, I keep wondering whether it might not actually be another Gallica, perhaps Duc de Cambridge. No matter; it is good.
I keep forgetting about it. It's planted at the edge of a tangle of Seafoam and keeps getting swamped. But it's starting to grow up through. It's a steady grower without disease problems. In its third season it has produced perhaps twelve flowers, each about two inches across. This will never be a force in the landscape; but the flowers have a certain gravity from which I cannot escape. |
