Few rugosa hybrids gain much over their rugosa ancestors. Conrad Ferdinand Meyer got bigger and sharper prickles, stronger stems, more intense odor, and the propensity to make high-centered hybrid tea style blossoms - sometimes.
CFM is not temperamental, it rarely falls prey to disease. It is a little lethargic in my own garden, putting up a single new cane each year. This gives it a spindly look normally reserved for hybrid teas. ARS members rate it 7.3. Many rosarians find it a little more irresistable because of its unique, if subtle, charms. I won't go without. |
